Stay + Vacation = Staycation!

Guest post by by Julie Watters, City of Glendale Deputy Communications Director

A few years ago no one had ever heard the word “staycation.”  Then the economy changed dramatically and folks from the tourism industry pushed for more people to take a “staycation” where they stayed near home. So now, the word “staycation” is very common and fortunately for the local tourism, the practice of a staycation is also common. Lucky for us in Glendale and the entire West Valley, there’s a ton of great things to do right here. In other words, take time off from your busy life with a cost-effective vacation that includes staying in a local hotel or be a tourist in your own community!

Think about it – have you really visited Glendale or the West Valley and seen all that it has to offer? Been to the Challenger Space Center as a tourist? Check out their online calendar and you’ll find weekly activities. Maybe you’ve heard of the Cerreta Candy Company, but did you know you could take a tour of this one-of-a-kind family-owned chocolate factory in Glendale?

Wigwam-and-Renaissance-hotelsNeed a overnighter at a ritzy hotel?  There are several in the West Valley including the Wigwam Resort and Golf Club and the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa. Both have special offers and package deals on their website right now!

Flemings-Dinner-Party            Restaurants? Take your pick. From Westgate Entertainment District and nearby Park West, to all the other great cuisine throughout the West Valley and historic downtown Glendale, there’s plenty of new restaurants to try on a staycation.
